what to expect?

The conference is organized by Antwerp Management School, the University of Antwerp and HKU University of the Arts (Utrecht).

The conference taps into three trends within the cultural and creative industries (CCIs) currently being discussed and the (changing) dynamics between them:

  • entrepreneurship,
  • the urban environment and
  • the role of creative, innovative and educational knowledge institutions.

This scientific conference will address various sectors of the arts and cultural industries (performing arts and festivals, heritage, museums and visual arts, film production and distribution, book publishing, recording, broadcasting, audiovisual media and multimedia, design).

The conference speakers will be presenting their research activities and research articles as well as theoretical/conceptual papers that engage with pertinent questions and issues in depth from a pedagogical, sociological, cultural, political, economic, philosophical and/or ethical standpoint reporting on case studies or developments within these three topics.

Registration fees

Registration fee:€ 250Registration fee students:(*) € 125

(*) Scan in your student card (with number and photo) and email it to tara.goossens@ams.ac.be in order to enjoy the student registration fee.  
The conference subscription fee includes two day participation in the conference, all coffee breaks and daily lunches, conference bag with proceedings and the conference book "Cultural and Creative Industries, Knowledge Institutions and the Urban Environment".

We don’t offer any day passes.

Note that participants have to arrange travel and accommodation themselves. We have negotiated special rates for conference participants with some Antwerp hotels.

Registration procedure

Fill in the online registration form. After registration you will receive a confirmation email and an invoice with all payment details. 

Note that your subscription for the conference is valid only when you have deposited the fee.
For students: your subscription for the conference is valid only when you have deposited the fee and send us a valid scan of your student card (with number and photo).

Refund policy
Your registration may be cancelled only by means of a standard letter, a registered letter, fax (+32 (0)3 265 47 59) or email to tara.goossens@ams.ac.be

If your registration is cancelled more than 30 days before the conference begins, you will be charged 20% of the registration fee. If your registration is cancelled more than 15 days before the conference begins, you will be charged 40% of the registration fee. If your registration is cancelled less than 15 days before the conference begins, you will be charged the entire fee. Read our general conditions

Annick Schramme is Full Professor and Director of the Competence Centre Creative Industries (Antwerp Management School/Flanders DC) and of the Competence Centre Management, Culture & Policy (Faculty of Applied Economics, University of Antwerp).

Em. Prof. Dr. Giep Hagoort
Giep Hagoort is Emeritus Professor of Art and Economics at Utrecht University and Professor of Art and Science at Ilja State University (Tbilisi).

Drs. René Kooyman
Rene Kooyman is International Research Fellow and Lecturer at HKU University of the Arts (Utrecht).
