Summer School: A.U.K. Summer Program 2015 in Kosovo

30.04.2015. 00:00 | A.U.K. campus in Pristina, Kosovo

This summer A.U.K. will again offer a Peace-Building, Post-Conflict Transformation and Development Program. The program, which will take place on the A.U.K. campus in Pristina, Kosovo from 28 June until 31 July, will be the sixth since the program’s inception. The A.U.K. Summer Program 2015 in Kosovo, building on the success of the previous five programs, will again offer a timely series of lectures and seminars, role plays and visits to historic sites in the region for participants from around the world.

As in the past, the faculty for this year’s program will be a mix of respected academic experts and practitioners in the field of post-conflict development. Past faculty have included former U.N. Special Representative for Kosovo Soren Jessen-Petersen, International Criminal Tribunal for Yugoslavia spokesperson Florence Hartmann, Westminster University conflict prevention specialist Dr. Aidan Hehir, Deputy U.N. Special Representative Jock Covey, and University of Maine professor and Milosevic biographer Louis Sell. The faculty of the 2015 program will be of similar quality and experience. The A.U.K Summer Program 2015 in Kosovo will provide an exceptional opportunity for students from around the world and from Kosovo, Serbia and other states in the region to study and debate, with academic experts and veterans of the recent conflict in Kosovo, the lessons learned from that conflict and the effort to build a new state in its aftermath.

Kosovo, the newest nation in the Balkans and the object of an international military intervention and a subsequent protectorate, is a perfect venue for such a summer program. Opportunities to explore peace-building, post-conflict transition, the prospect for closer regional cooperation, economic development and the establishment of the rule of law take on a greater significance. A.U.K.’s program seeks to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Conducted in a safe, vibrant environment, the Program combines post-conflict studies with access to decision makers and history-makers.

The A.U.K Summer Program 2015 in Kosovo welcomes undergraduate and graduate students as well as professionals from various fields and disciplines. The five-week, residential, program consists of two courses, plus course-related trips to Albania, Greece, Macedonia or Bosnia, Montenegro, and Serbia. For participating students, each course carries three-semester credits. Transferable undergraduate credits are offered by A.U.K.’s U.S. partner, Rochester Institute of Technology in New York.

Students will be accommodated in a secure and clean student hostel within walking distance of the campus.
