The research project entitled Archival Research and Cultural Heritage: The Theatre Archive of Societas Raffaello Sanzio (ARCH) operates within the framework of the NRSF-funded action Aristeia II and is conducted by a twenty-member research team, composed of teaching staff, researchers, postgraduate and undergraduate students of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, the University of Crete, the University of Peloponnese, Stanford University, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Academy of Athens and Harokopio University. The research team is further assisted by external collaborators, experts in the fields of archives and library science, informatics, communication, visual design and audiovisual arts.

The ARCH project runs in Italy, Greece and other European countries, and aims to produce primary research in the field of theatre studies. Its specific object is an internationally acclaimed theatrical company, the Societas Raffaello Sanzio. The research focuses on two axes: a) the in-depth study of the artistic opus of the company, on the basis of an analysis of valuable primary material, and b) infrastructure work regarding the preservation, maintenance, documentation, classification, organisation, digitization and diffusion of one of the most significant modern cultural archives of Europe.

The archive of the Societas Raffaello Sanzio is kept at Cesena, Italy and it includes very rare documentary resources. It is of special international interest, since researchers, teachers and artists from all over the world consult it almost daily. The collection includes theoretical texts and manifesti of special importance, primary creative material from performances, photos, promotion and publicity material, interviews, articles, theatre criticism, audio material and videos in analogue and digital format.
